The connection between genetics, neuroimaging and cognitive assessment and how each of these is independently and dynamically affected by intervention has its place in the field of education and neuroscience. Interdisciplinary advances that use genetics and neuroimaging to plan targeted interventions would greatly impact the general population by allowing for early detection and treatment of learning disabilities. The need for further advancement in the diagnosis of learning disorders and the critical role that intervention plays is evident by the rate of diagnosis and the projected outcomes of those diagnosed. This review focuses on the field of research regarding the relationship between genetics, neuroimaging and cognitive assessment and how interdisciplinary work could improve diagnosis and treatment by creating more comprehensive interventions.
