Lego Serious Play as Pedagogy for K–12 Teacher Development

Abstract

Lego blocks are more than just children’s toys. This study is to share how Lego mediated inquiry methodology, i.e. Lego Serious Play, works for teacher development. The purpose of the presentation is twofold: 1.We will introduce Lego Serious Play (LSP)--originally invented as business strategy methodology, its theoretical foundations, core values and goals, and implementation strategies. Business intervention case studies will be briefly described to show how LSP is utilized to understand organizational identifies of company managers. 2. Then, we will present how LSP could be similarly applied in other disciplinary organizations such as schools. Our two cases to be presented include LSP employment for in-service secondary teacher professional development retreat in South Korea; and for pre-service elementary teachers in America.
