Dewey's Pragmatism: Naturalism, Empiricism, Realism, Instrumentalism and Truth as Correspondence.
Abstract:
The question of the nature of Dewey's Pragmatism has recently been taken up, by Kitcher (2013, 2012) and by Misak (2013). In this presentation, I characterize Dewey's Pragmatism by setting out several often disputed elements that in my view comprise Dewey's position. I esamine, and show the intercalation, of Dewey's naturalism, realism, instrumentalism, empiricism, his conception of knowledge as warranted assertibility, and his correspondence theory of truth.
