"Always by Your Side": The Biographies of African American Women Teachers in the Post–Civil Rights North

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is the description and analysis of the eleven biographies of a multigenerational group of African American women who have taught or are teaching in a Northern mid-sized, public, low income urban school district in the post-civil rights era, beginning in the mid-1970s and continuing into the 21st century.
