The main purpose of the current study was to analyze Smarter Balanced math assessment items by implementing the feature analysis approach. In the context of the current study, feature analysis was defined as the qualitative rating of tasks against a set of attributes, followed by a subsequent quantitative analysis to determine how these attributes determine task performance. The item difficulty analysis was performed on a total of 75 items across 4th (12,651 cas-es), 8th (6,000 item performance cases) and 11th grade (6,000); 25 for each respective grade. Findings indicated that select features contributed to significant item variance across 4th, 8th, and 11th grade items.
