Lurking in online environments is a fairly common behavior. While some students actively participate in online discussions by asking questions and posting replies to engage and interact, there are others who lurk and their participation is not clearly visible. The application of learning analytics tools to track and monitor online interactions has made it possible to study lurking behavior such as the number of times a post or thread is viewed; total number of logins or days online. This study investigated the relationship between lurking, asking questions and academic achievement using learning analytics. While a positive correlation was found between all the three variables, the correlation was significant between lurking and the total points converted into the final letter grade.
