This study analyzes how access to public and private institutions of higher education in Vietnam has changed from four perspectives: funding type, gender, income level and ethnicity. The study uses descriptive data, primarily from the Ministry of education and Training (MOET) and Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) databases. Access to higher education in Vietnam has exploded in recent decades, largely because of economic growth and the creation of private institutions, which currently enroll 15% of higher education students. The study also found a gradual increase in the enrolment of females, of students from ethnic minorities, although the inequality gap persists, especially between rural and more prestigious areas.
