Sat, April 9, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Marriott Marquis, Floor: Level Four, Independence Salon C

Abstract

The objective of this study was to explore the special educational leadership of William B. Robertson as founder and advocate of a recreational camp devoted to individuals with disabilities. It underscores the importance of Mr. Robinson’s special educational leadership as an African American man creating an inclusive space for individuals with intellectual disabilities. My interview with Mr. Robinson focused on his founding of Camp Virginia Jaycee, a recreational camp for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Through narrative analyses Mr. Robinson’s life history as a special educational leader was constructed to respond to the research question: How did Mr. Robinson contribute to the growth of students in special education? By sharing his history, Mr. Robertson contributes to public scholarship about spatial justice.
