To date, there is no research that examines assessment literacy in terms of the relationship between preservice teachers assessment literacy and their thinking about their own agency. This paper will examine how twenty-three preservice teachers think about their own assessment literacy while participating in a social studies methods course and teaching lessons in a secondary school clinical/field experience. The preservice teachers thinking about their assessment decisions in their methods course and their field experience demonstrated that their assessment literacy represents only the starting place for their complex decision making process.
