The Impact of Multi-Institutional STEM Reform Networks: The Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning as a Case Example

Sat, April 9, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D Section D

Abstract

Using a case study methodology and semi-structured interviews, the study investigated the perceived impact of a multi-institutional STEM reform network, namely, the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL). Results indicated that the network operated as a community of practice, providing institutional representatives and member universities with access to network learning, network products, and network capital. Furthermore, network benefits were filtered through each institution’s unique organizational context, which could be used to promote or hinder the application of network benefits. This case study contributes to the growing knowledge base on the processes of multi-institutional networks and their impacts on institutional goals and priorities.
