The Emotions Toward and Support of Educational Reform by K–12 and Higher Education Faculty Members

Mon, April 11, 4:30 to 6:00pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D

Abstract

Abstract

The goal of our research was to determine the interaction between K-12 educators and college of education faculty members with regard to learning more about teaching and learning aligned with the Common Core State Standards. We also were interested in their perceptions and emotions toward the standards, as these variables are proxies for their levels of expectation and perhaps levels of interest in learning more and supporting CCSS. Participants were 22 K-12 teachers and 58 higher education faculty. The analysis revealed three general themes in each of the two groups: Support; Barriers and Challenges; Leadership. Participants in both groups reported feeling overwhelmed with implementing CCSS, yet happy and hopeful about CCSS in general.
