Abstract

In this paper we describe the outcome of a qualitative metasynthesis across datasets
aimed at generating complex and inclusive profiles of readers to guide instruction and
intervention. The purpose of this study is to explore the intersection multiple ways of
understanding profiles of struggling middle grades readers drawing on data regarding student
selfperceptions,
teacher perceptions of student ability, and the results of formal and informal
literacy assessments.
