Research about school factors that contribute to the resilience and academic success of transgender students is a growing area of scholarship. Few studies have explored how transgender students have developed healthy and affirming gender identities, what is defined as positive marginality (Grossman et al., 2011). Furthermore, research on the social, emotional, and psychological outcomes of LGBT students has been conducted with predominantly white and affluent samples and samples with few transgender participants. Drawing from a racially and socioeconomically diverse sample of participants, this exploratory study examines how transgender students develop resilience and academic success and the contributing factors in schools.
