We performed a meta-analysis of the relationship between oral language skills and writing quality in elementary school students. Using a random effects model, we estimated the average effect size across nine studies (ES=.288). Moderation analysis of the average effect size by student characteristics and construct features uncovered no statistically significant effects. This may be due to the small number of studies in the meta-analysis, or those variables do not moderate the relationship between oral language and writing quality in elementary school students. The importance of these findings for elementary education research in the U.S. is also briefly discussed.
