Current research on creativity and achievement left many unresolved problems. Among other things, we still know little on how creativity is related to student achievement. This study focused on one aspect of creativity—math creativity and its relationship with math achievement in 64 countries. We used PISA student assessment and background data collected from more than 60 countries across the world. Our three-level hierarchical linear model (HLM) indicated that individual students with high math creativity tended to perform better in PISA math assessment within each country. However, our two-level HLM model revealed a more complicated situation where in some countries school average of math creativity were significantly related to student achievement in math while others were not.
