Researcher as Artist: Cultivating Arts-Based Practices in an Early Preservice Teacher Education Program

Abstract

This research offers a new pedagogical approach, Critical-Complex Arts Integrated Pedagogy (CCAIP), which foregrounds the critical and intellectual work of arts-based practices across content area. CCAIP can be understood not only as a theoretical framework and classroom pedagogy, but also as a method of inquiry, one grounded in Arts-Based Educational Research (ABER). In this session, I offer two forms of ABER scholarship: a poem and a mixed media art installation based on curated data from a study which examines how my students and I use the arts to inquire into critical issues about teaching and learning.
