In higher education, the numbers of new faculty with prior careers and women faculty are increasing; however, traditional theories may not explain this intersection in examining faculty careers. This phenomenological study used a conceptual framework of adult transition and career development models to investigate the career transition and strategies of women midlife career changers to higher education faculty. Findings included a career transition process and related challenges, supports, and strategies with implications for theory as well as higher education policy and practice.
