Abstract

There is an increased interest in ascertaining the specific aspects of quality teachers in the current educational climate. As such, the idea of teacher dispositions grown in popularity and interest among teacher educators, educational policymakers, accrediting bodies, and schools. We suggest that this idea is appropriate, and that by focusing on teacher dispositions, one can examine the most essential components to effective teachers. In this paper we synthesize the definitions of dispositions to offer a more fully encompassing one that might lay the foundation for a baseline definition off of which researchers could work. Concurrently, we offer a blueprint for how we may develop a comprehensive teacher disposition assessment tool that may influence how we assess and train teachers.
