Abstract

This paper shares the perceived challenges of self-study and case study methods for two young researchers. Within this study, the complexities of qualitative research were further complicated by ethical issues with participants, along with self-study on one’s own teaching and students. Two researchers, who served as critical friends for one another in their respective dissertation projects, discuss the importance of a critical friend and share the ways it supported each in making research design decisions, analyzing data, and presenting findings in ways that ensured the trustworthiness of their research.
