This study focused on students enrolled at a California community college, specifically a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), and students enrolled in developmental education courses. Using survey instruments, students’ academic perspectives, behaviors, and self-perceptions as learners were measured considering the influence of a federally funded student success program. Data were examined using descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression analyses. Results from correlations and regression analyses are provided and offer conceptualization of students’ attitudes and behaviors inside and outside the classroom. This model can be used as an example of institutional responsiveness to student engagement and academic support for underserved student populations. Implications and recommendations for program improvement and educational policy are discussed.
