Patience and Leadership Effectiveness: A Field Experiment

Mon, April 11, 7:45 to 9:15am, Convention Center, Floor: Level One, Room 147 A

Abstract

The purpose of this study is twofold: (a) to test the effectiveness of the patience training program in increasing patience among leadersusing a pretest-posttest control group of true experimental study design. The training program was developed based on the theoretical framework of practicing patience (Haque & Liu, 2014);and (b) to investigate the relationship between patience and leadership effectiveness. The study hypothesized that the training program would significantly increase the leaders’ patience and the increased patience would, in turn, increase their leadership effectiveness. Participants of the study reported that the intervention helped them cultivate patience. The study also shows that patient leaders are as effective as others.
