The idea of incorporating cognition into assessment has led to a new form of assessment called cognitive diagnostic assessment. To date, many diagnostic classification models (DCMs) have been developed, yet DCM applications in language assessment have mainly been retrofits. However, the application of DCMs would be more effective if they are applied to the tests featuring cognitive models. Hence, this study aims to generate a cognitive model of second language reading comprehension which underpinned a diagnostic reading test implemented within Log-Linear Cognitive Modeling Framework. The model generation entailed five data collection phases, yielding both quantitative and qualitative data. The findings revealed that if a cognitive model is incorporated into the test development earlier, the results would be more fruitful.
