Practical Problems: Preservice Teachers' Developing Dispositions of Inquiry in Diverse Learning Environments

Fri, April 8, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level One, West Salon GHI

Abstract

As pre-service teachers enter the field of education, it is imperative to develop an understanding of the dispositions required to become effective at solving problems of practice. PSTs potentially enter the field with an immanent need to be able to accommodate for diverse needs among groups of learners. The purpose of this study is to illuminate how a group of PSTs potentially develop a set of interrelated habits when faced with authentic problems of practice in an advanced field placement within an elementary school setting. Through a qualitative case study approach, our goal is to shed light on the habits necessary to develop dispositions of inquiry into problems of practice and develop a potential framework for understanding.
