Factor Structure and Longitudinal Invariance of a Reading Attitude Scale

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the factor structure of the Me and My Reading Profile (MMRP) and longitudinal invariance of the scale. The sample consisted of 1805 Grade One U.S. students, 73.9% of whom received Reading Recovery (RR), 26.1% did not. Students were tested twice over a period of twelve weeks. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) based on polychoric correlation matrix was adopted using Mplus 7.2. Results showed that a unidimensional model with two pairs of error covariance between items with similar wordings fit the data best; longitudinal invariance of the measurement model was achieved at strict level (equal factor loadings, thresholds, and item uniqueness) across time. The results indicate that mean scores in MMRP could be compared across time.
