The idea of service learning is that students participate in a service project, which fits to the community needs and gives a charitable effect. With this activity students reflect on their behavior and foster a deeper understanding of the academic content as well as of their own values and attitudes towards civic responsibility. The following paper gives an insight into a pre-post-group-design including questionnaires and interviews with the students involved. The results show effects over time in self-efficacy and self-image as well as within the willingness to engage actively. The statements from the interviews enable deeper understanding of the group dynamic, perceptions of sympathy and perception of support as influencing factors in this didactical concept.
