This paper examines student outcomes from the first year of implementation of a dropout recovery program. The Open Campus High School (OCHS) is an alternative school that provides credit recovery in a flexible, self-paced but instructionally facilitated learning environment that also focuses on students’ non-academic needs. The purpose of the study was to examine the factors that contributed to the enrollment and continued engagement in the OCHS. The researchers will also examine the program’s initial impact on student achievement as measured by the number of diplomas awarded and the number of credits earned. Findings are expected to inform improvements to the program and to inform the literature on alternative learning environments as they pertain to dropout prevention.
