This paper explores the perceptions of 14 African Americans from Prince Edward County, Virginia regarding their lived experiences as recipients of a restorative justice policy known as the Brown v. Board of Education Scholarship Program and Fund, hereafter referred to as the Brown Scholarship Fund. The Brown Scholarship Fund was created to make amends for denied public school education enacted by the Commonwealth of Virginia from 1954-1964 as a way to refuse Brown v. Board (1954). The purpose of the presentation is to provide an understanding of how the scholarship recipients perceived the Brown Scholarship Fund and its ability to provide restorative justice. Further, the findings from this study offer design and implementation considerations for government-sponsored restorative justice policies.
