Propensity score matching (PSM) can be used to compare groups and has advantages over traditional methods using covariates. There are many PSM methods and currently there is not a standard practice for selecting a method. This study examined the stability of three different PSM methods when comparing the achievement of students in public versus private schools. Student characteristics were more balanced in the two groups and differences in mean achievement scores were reduced after the application of each of the methods. The magnitude of change was similar across all methods.
