To examine the impact of iPad use on student engagement, student learning, and teacher efficacy in 3rd to 5th grade classrooms, this mixed methods case study looks at two cases from a larger dataset. A Spanish and art teacher instructed classes with digital mobile technology (DMT) and without DMT. Teacher and student interviews, classroom observations, student engagement surveys and pre/post assessments were analyzed. Findings show student engagement varied across conditions. There was no significant difference in student achievement; however, more student-directed learning and digital literacy competencies were found when students used DMT. Teacher efficacy, examined through the SAMR framework, showed levels of enhancement/transformation and redefinition in technology integration.
