Most of Web 2.0 technologies are either free or inexpensive, which makes them more accessible for teachers to use for instructional purposes, especially assisting diverse students from lower socioeconomic status. This presentation will discuss a mixed-methods exploratory study that investigated how a group of reading teacher candidates responded to a training on Web 2.0 technologies as demonstrated in their perception and practice when working to engage struggling readers. The findings from the study can serve as an endeavor for Public Scholarship to help K-12 teachers in schools and teacher preparation programs in universities to better understand how to include technologies and how to assist teacher candidates in designing technology integration appropriately.
