Gender Differences Among Top Performers From PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) 2012

Sun, April 10, 2:45 to 4:15pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D

Abstract

The Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) is an international assessment that measures 15-year-old students' achievement in reading, mathematics, and science literacy. The assessment was administered by 65 countries and education systems in 2012, 34 of which are OECD member countries. This analysis looks at the PISA 2012 data and examines if any patterns emerge when we look at gender differences in (a) the percentages of top performers in mathematics and science, (b) the career aspirations of top performers, and (c) attitudes in mathematics among these top performers that might impact their career aspirations.
