The concept of artistry in teaching is not new; however, the importance of reevaluating artistry in teaching may be of value in light of a societal focus on the anaesthetic features of positivism under the auspices of standardization and accountability. The purpose of this study was to uncover the connections between teaching as artistic expression and learning as aesthetic experience from the perspective of current in-service artistic teachers. The descriptions their lived experiences were used to create spiral models of artistic teaching to better understand their philosophical orientations. A wider conception of teaching that includes artistry will be invaluable in encouraging teachers and educators to conceive of teaching as complex endeavor and value multiple perspectives and realities.
