This study explored how pre-service secondary mathematics teachers perceived their preparation to teach mathematics using technology as a tool. Using a mixed-method, sequential explanatory design, the researcher investigated the relationship between student teachers’ use of technology in field placements and their beliefs, instructional practice, use of materials, and content knowledge: constructs identified in literature as instrumental for technology integration. Quantitative data from questionnaires were administered to 105 participants across New York, followed by semi-structured interviews with a purposeful sample of eight participants. Multiple regression analysis revealed a positive relationship between two constructs and increased technology use: instructional practice and access to software with support. However, interviews revealed that technology was used in limited ways, not as conceptual tools for learning.
