To do their work well, teacher educators need opportunities to develop their own thinking. Collaborative design work can be a professional development opportunity for the people involved. In this study, faculty members with diverse expertise worked together over four years to iteratively design and enact an ambitious graduate preservice program. Guided by ideas about professional community and ambitious teacher education, data were examined for how teacher educators talked and how their thinking progressed. Findings illustrate how talk changes over time as faculty develop their ideas about innovative, ambitious teacher education. Understanding how faculty engage in collaborative curriculum design work and what they learn is invaluable in creating these opportunities for teacher educators’ learning and supporting improved program design.
