Partner Learning for Deeper Comprehension and Collaboration

Sat, April 9, 8:15 to 9:45am, Marriott Marquis, Floor: Level Four, Liberty Salon O

Abstract

This qualitative study examines the impact of partner (havruta) learning on students’ learning. First year college students in a large state university, read and analyze text with a consistent partner and submit their work in both written and audio forms. I will suggest how to implement this strategy to empower students to study text in order to arrive at deeper comprehension. In addition, this research will shed light on strategies to collect students’ thoughts in an audio form to complement written work. Ultimately the two types students’ work analyzed together may give teachers deeper insights into students’ thinking about subject.
