Assessing What I Value as a Teacher Educator

Sun, April 10, 8:15 to 9:45am, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D Section B

Abstract

The objective of this self-study was to explore developing and assessing the enactment of a personal pedagogy of teacher education. A teacher educator first articulated and self-assessed the enactment of their principles for practice. Next, the teacher educator’s articulated principles informed the development of an anonymous survey that was used to gather data soliciting teacher candidates’ perceptions of the extent to which the articulated principles were enacted during a full year course. Analysis of candidates’ perceptions provided affirmation and direction for further refinement of the teacher educator’s practices. This study illustrates how measuring what we value as teacher educators may provide feedback to enhance our practices, and provide a viable alternative to “valuing what is measured” by standard course evaluations.
