Exploring the Early College and College Transition Experiences of Women From Underrepresented Groups

Tue, April 12, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level Three, Ballroom B

Abstract

Early College High Schools (ECHS) combine high school with significant college credit for students who have not had the academic preparation needed to meet college readiness standards, students for whom a smooth transition to college may be difficult, and students for whom the cost of college is prohibitive. ECHSs boast high graduation rates, college acceptance rates, and credits earned. However, little scholarship illustrates the efficacy of ECHSs regarding students’ successful transition, and subsequent engagement and success in college. Importantly, no known scholarship focuses on the Early College experiences and subsequent transition and success in postsecondary for women from underrepresented groups. This study examines the transition from Early College to postsecondary, and college engagement and success for women from underrepresented groups.
