School Mathematics Placement Practices and Students' Placement in Advanced Math Courses and Math Achievement

Abstract

Using data from the High School Longitudinal Study 2009 & 2013, this study examines school’s mathematics placement practices. The findings point out, controlling for a wide range of student and school factors, which school-level math placement practices predict the likelihood of a student taking an advanced math course and their math achievement.
