Creativity as a Subject: The Case of Extended TRIZ in Vietnam

Mon, April 11, 11:45am to 1:15pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D

Abstract

This project explored the development of a curriculum for creativity: the case of extended TRIZ in Vietnam, where the knowledge of creativity is systematized into a subject. Five teachers participated in the study. Semi-structured interview, participant observation of classroom practice, and archival research were employed. The data were treated as discourses. The curriculum development process was seen as the historical localization of certain discourses about creativity and education. Analysis found four simultaneous dimensions of curriculum development: initiation, practice, development, and travel. The discourses at work in the case summoned good problem solvers, nationalists, and a world of inequality. The study is expected to inspire educators to examine how their educational theories construct the space they inhabit.
