Sun, April 10, 8:15 to 9:45am, Convention Center, Floor: Level One, Room 153

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify and describe the associations between Systemic Equity Pedagogy (SEP) and the science achievement and college readiness of students in high achieving, highly diverse high schools. This paper reports results of three related investigations, all focusing on the data collected from ten Texas high schools. These ten schools comprised a purposive sample of 29 high schools that represented only 2% of all high school science programs in Texas to exhibit proportionally high (greater than 75%) diverse student population and high levels of both science achievement and college readiness, according to state performance indicators. This study resulted in the development of a comprehensive framework and rubric for promoting excellence and equity in schools.
