Which Reading Accommodations Benefit Which Students?

Mon, April 11, 4:30 to 6:30pm, Marriott Marquis, Floor: Level Three, Chinatown

Abstract

This research examines the use and effectiveness of a state’s 22 accommodations by students identified with 19 needs on its reading test for Grades 3 through 8 and high school.
The data which included 565,794 students, of which 43% had one need and 13% more than one need, was analyzed for trends and by chi-square analysis. While most accommodations were associated with lower passing rates for students who accessed them, two were found to have higher pass rates for students with specific needs.
