The purpose of this mixed methods study is to gain an understanding of the value K-12 teachers place on using technology to enhance literacy instruction, the types of technologies they are using, and the teacher’s perceptions of possible barriers to technology integration. Worldwide competitiveness to produce critical thinkers and the use of technology to support literacy instruction to meet the needs of diverse populations, have become increasingly important issues in education. The preliminary results of an online survey indicate that while most participants believe that technology tools are important for teaching literacy, they are not using these tools frequently in their classrooms. One identified barrier to technology integration in relation to literacy instruction is the lack of teacher training/experience.
