Visualizing New Narratives: Using Critical Visual Narrative Methodology to Collaborate With Students for Organizational Change

Mon, April 11, 10:00 to 11:30am, Convention Center, Floor: Level One, Room 149 B

Abstract

This paper explores how Critical Visual Narrative, a novel methodology developed from elements of visual sociology, visual narrative, photo-interviewing, photo-elicitation, photovoice, Friereian ideals of problem based education, and Participatory Action Research, can inform scholarship and practice, providing a tool, which engages participants in working toward meaningful social and organizational change on campus. To challenge previous notions of critical work, we place participants at the center, collaboratively engaging them through the data collection process while working toward reconstructing how we approach practice and issues of social justice and equity in higher education practice.
