Engaging the Climate-Energy Nexus Through Environmental Education

Abstract

How to respond to climate change and its dramatic social and educational implications remains a significant challenge for the field of EE. In this paper, we describe an innovative approach to advancing climate change and energy education simultaneously within the context of EE. We highlight emerging opportunities for transdisciplinary studies at the climate-energy nexus and focus on climate resilience and preparing for changes in energy systems. In the process, we identify the multiple linkages between energy systems and climate change, expand climate change education beyond the physical sciences to connect with energy systems and energy practices, and illuminate the synergies between STEM education and EE.
