This paper joins current conversations in literacy studies seeking to find new ways to conceptualize the literacy practices of youth and how these practices move within and between spaces. While sociocultural theories of literacy have, invaluably, foregrounded the importance of context in the research of such practices, there has been a tendency towards an over-reliance on place-based notions of context. Though often providing rich understandings of contextualized literacy practices, this work has not always accounted for the movements and flows that happen within and between places. This paper seeks to provide a look into the lived experiences of students’ textual engagement in their everyday lives to examine what might govern their literacy practices across the places and spaces they inhabit.
