This research was designed to examine the effectiveness of a teachers’ participation in two forms of Research Experiences for Teachers in influencing student science learning. The two forms of RET examined was SciRes (a traditional science research experience) and SciPed (the process of scientific inquiry as the central focus). A pre/post research design was employed, and included 24 teachers and 841 students from three different groups (SciRed, SciPed, and Comparison). Results suggests that students whose teachers participate in the SciPed model were more likely to perceive their science classrooms to require their engagement in scientific inquiry, and showed greater motivation to engage in science and a greater understanding of the nature of science than students from the other two groups.
