A Tale of Two Professional Development Schools: A Multiple-Case Study

Sat, April 9, 8:15 to 9:45am, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D Section A

Abstract

This multiple case study focuses on two elementary schools that are part of a Professional Development School District, which is a result of the collaboration among a school district, a College of Education, and individuals from the community. Each elementary school represents a unique case of how PDS goals are advanced by various stakeholder groups (i.e., district/school administrators, teachers, students, university faculty and community members) within the same local context. Interviews, focus groups, and document reviews are used to describe each school and examine its PDS model. Findings from these two cases provide understandings related to the PDS model implemented at each school, the challenges faced by the schools to improve performance, and the perceived impact of the PDS collaboration.
