Backgrounds and Intentions of Massive Open Online Course Learners in a Neuroscience Course Using At-Home Laboratory Kits

Sat, April 9, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level One, Room 155

Abstract

This work is conducted on 185 learners who were selected out of a large population of MOOC learners to receive physical at-home lab kits. Using these kits, these learners could perform neuroscience experiments. We used descriptive and inferential statistics to understand their background and demographic information in terms of: their intentions for enrolling in the course, their previous exposure to the course content, and their overall language proficiency and its impact on their performance. Our results corroborate with similar studies conducted on MOOCs.
