School District and Leadership Development: Aligning Three Partnerships With Best Practices

Sat, April 9, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Marriott Marquis, Floor: Level Two, Marquis Salon 2

Abstract

The Educational Leadership and Policy Studies Department of the Howard University School of Education, a historically Black institution of higher education, partnered with two school districts in Maryland, the Montgomery County Public Schools and the Prince George's County Public Schools, to design and implement a cohort doctoral leadership preparation program to prepare the next generation of school leaders based on best practices identified by the Wallace Foundation (Darling-Hammond, et al, 2007). The course of study is ELCC approved and is delivered using a combination of traditional, hybrid and online course methodologies. Three experiential courses that are aligned to the unique needs of each school district are developed in coordination with the districts. This presentation will focus on the challenges and benefits to the school districts and the university as well as outcomes after four years of partnership.
