We tested the effects of gamification on students’ engagement in a computer-based curriculum-based measurement system and examined how these effects vary by motivation type. We collected data from sophomore students (N=97) in a Chinese college. The results indicate that gamification, as well as the assessment system’s entry difficulty, significantly affect students’ level of engagement in testing. However, these effects do not vary by students’ motivation types.
